Dylan Ch. 3 Pawn Argument-LibbyNegron

Bob Dylan, a powerful songwriter, and proved by this text, a philosophical literary reference, compares Byron de la Beckwith, to the most common chess piece, the pawn. The pawn is played as the most frontal piece of the chess board. When controlling the pawn, it is used as a blockage, rather than a piece advancing forward. Byron de la Beckwith, a white southerner, pulled the life shattering bullet ending the life of Medgar Evans, an African-American civil rights leader. Dylan claims that Beckwith has been told in varied ways, this was the correct form of tolerance rather than thinking for himself. Why is Beckwith to blame when he is only a pawn? This leader-pawn relationship corresponds with the Holocaust. Hitler, however, is the leader dictating his incorrect enlightenment to his followers, the pawns. Hitler’s pawns are with out a doubt misinformed. They put themselves through moral corruption which not only resulted in death, but the death of innocent people discriminated against because of their faith.
