#1, 2, 5, 6, and 9 for MSnider and SHundt
1. Here is the hierarchy of the Pequod:
Captain Ahab (Captain Bildad and Captain Peleg)
First mate - Starbuck
Second mate - Stubb
Third mate - Flask
Harpooners - Queequeg, Tashtego, Daggoo
Blacksmith - Perth
Crew - Ishmael, Fadallah, Pip, Dough-boy, Fleece
2. Ahab’s mark is a scar from a whale that goes from his crown to his sole. That could also mean that the scar goes from the crown on his head into his very soul, his being. This mark sets him apart and causes him to want revenge on the cursed whale that gave it to him. God gave Cain a mark to keep others from killing him because he killed his brother. Cain’s mark is not physical and is used for protection, but also marks him as a sinner. Although Cain did a terrible act, God protects him from the same fate he gave his brother. Ahab’s mark is more of a warning to others who attempt to kill the whale that they will end up the same way. This mark actually causes Ahab to want to kill the whale even more. The whale’s mark on Ahab suggests that Ahab will not head the warning, causing his imminent death.
5. Ahab is going insane and he knows it, though his crew claims him as a king. If they say that he is, why can't he be? Why not boss people around if they are willing to and they help him accomplish his goal? His monomania is his obsession with getting revenge on Moby-Dick. He will do anything to accomplish it.
6. Starbuck is saying that he is tired and he has no control over his situation. The central trope would be "But my whole clock's run down; my heart the all-controlling weight, I have no key to lift again." It is appropriate because it perfectly describes his helpless and worn-out feeling on the ship.
9. Fedallah comes from the Islamic word meaning "Ransom of God". With such a name, you can infer that he must sacrifice himself later on. They say he is a demonic figure and balances out the goodness of Queequeg and Ishmael. However, it is also speculated that he represents a sort of "angel of death".

1. You can't lump Fedallah and Pip in with Ishmael. Pip is at the bottom--and this is important. Fedallah is a special case, almost a shadow double of Ahab.
4/5
2.Another brush with the numinous, i.e., the scar is a sign of the numinous. 5/5
5. Okay, but a little skimpy. 4/5
6. What kind of trope is it that you've identified? 4/5
