6) Starbuck Soliloquy Tyler Smith
A trope is any literary or rhetorical device, as metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche, alliteratin, and irony, words with abtract meaning, words meant to be taken figuratively and literally.
Starbuck feels remorse, for the failed expedition. “The white whale is their demogorgon.” Starbuck refers to Moby Dick as a from hell, which is powerful and evil. Starbuck is aware of the monomania of Ahab and although does not approve of it, must stay by his saide, for Ahab is his captain, and he will stay loyal to his captain no matter what. This quote expresses the true hatred of the whale, and the hatred Starbuck feels towards the "wasted" expedition. The whale Ahab s so much has caused his right hand man to in return disdain him as a captain and as a man, for risking the lives of all his men for the the of one evil whale. Starbucks Soliloqhy expresses that he realizes he has no power over Ahab, over the expedition, over the crew, and most importantly over the whale

This really doesn't do much by way of identifying and explaining the function of the trope..."the demogorgon."
