Ch. 36 Question by Bobby Katoli

"Nantucket market! Hoot! But come closer, Starbuck; thou requirest a little lower layer. If money's to be the measurer, man, and the accountants have computed their great counting-house the globe, by girdling it with guineas, one to every three parts of an inch; then, let me tell thee, that my vengeance will fetch a great premium here!"

In this passage, Ahab procalims that people indulge themselves with money. He shows Starbuck how men are obsessed with the value of something and not the worth. He goes on to tell Starbuck that his revenge on Moby Dick will be of something of worth.

"He tasks me; he heaps me; I see in him outrageuos strength, with an inscrutable malice sinewing it. That inscrutable thing is chiefly what I ; and be the white whale agent, or be the white whale principle, I will wreck the upon him."

In this passage, Ahab describes the great white whale as powerful. He feels Moby Dick taunts him. He feels contempt toward the whale because he "dismembered" his leg from him. He goes on to say that Moby DIck will feel his wrath and be killed. Here, he shows his obsession for Moby Dick, or monomania.
