chapter 6 by mary elaine brett and libby
Because of Ahabs mysterious life, Starbuck is left at war with himself. HE knows that unfortunate evetns will come about the Pequod but due to loyality and wholesome personality, he will remain true to Ahab. He feels the need to speak out and help Ahab gain a sense of understanding for his fate. This soliloquy contributes to the rising climax because readers are revealed to the arguments between characters and now personal goals which have changed from an original crew goal of capturing Moby Dick. Starbuck also feels inferior to Captain Ahab and his madness.
