QUESTION 9 KATE PENNEBAKER

Question # 9 “Fedallah”

In Hebrew, Fedallah is a name that literally translates to “Ransom of God” and Allah is a renowned Arabic God worshipped by the people of the Islamic religion. It is quite ironic in fact because the name “Fedallah” actually has the name “Allah” within it, yet Fedallah (a harpooner/protector among Ahab’s crew) does not exhibit any God-like characteristics whatsoever. Like Ahab, he is a mysterious man who intrigues the other crew members. He could perhaps represent the other, evil half of Ahab (his scar symbolizes his two personalities).

Okay. Islam has only one God, the same God as Christians and Jews. Allah comes from the same root word as one of the Hebrew words for God. 5/5
