chapter 93 by Jeff Annis Tyler Smith Patrick Collins Kate Pennebaker Kyle Smith and Hannah Robinson

In chapter 93 Pip is chosen to replace an oarsman on Stubb's harpoon boat. The first time out he did a good job, but the next time he jumped off the boat in fear because the whale hit the bottom of the boat. The crew was angry at him because they had to let the whale go in order to save him, and threatened to let him die if he did it again. But Pip does it again, and to teach him a lesson he leaves him in the ocean and sails away. Here in the water Pip appears to go crazy to most of the crew, but Ishmael insists that he was spiritually changed. The vastness of the open water focuses Pip's emotions entirely on himself and scares his inner-being eternally. "The sea had jeeringly kept his finite body up, but drowned the infinite of his soul. Not drowned entirely, though. Rather carried down alive to the wondrous depths, where strange shapes of the unwarped primal world glided to and fro before his passive eyes...Pip saw the multitundinous, God omnipresent...He saw God's foot upon the treadle of the loom and spoke it.." - this shows how Pip was spiritually warped and is the reason why the crew thought he had lost his mind. So far noone in the book has had such a dramatic experience but it is understood that Ahab has had a life changing experience encountering Moby Dick.
