Pip and CARL JUNG by Cailin, Taylor, Lisa, and Mike the BIRTHDAY BOY!!!

PIP AND CARL JUNG

Pip has encountered soilitude in the presence of his conscience and of the immense entity of the unknown present in water. The ocean is so much bigger than the individual; if one is left there alone for a long period of time the vast space would overwhelm their psyche. Pip, a nice young boy who "loved life, and all life's peaceable securities," turns mad because he is forced into an environment in which there are no positives in life, where the only presence is the water and the unknown world underneath it.It is an unconcious transformation from the known world and physche into the unknown, and that forced blending was enough to change Pip's phyche and mood/behavior, making him go crazy. This awesome experience is like leaving the human sense of existence and entering into the unknown and almost paranormal sense. Pip has encountered the "numinous." Ishmael has also encountered a small amount of the "numinous" in his conversation with the prophet Elijah before he got on the Pequod. However, his experience is not the direct correlation between the supernatural and physical worlds that Pip was forced into.
