Nekyia - Hannah Robinson

Nekyia as defined by the Wikipedia Encyclopidia is a Greek term meaning "the journey into the night". Nekyia refers to the chapter of the Odyssey in which Odysseus descends to the underworld to discuss with the prophet Teiresias on how to get back home. This descent, resurrection, and discovery that characterizes Nekyia occurs many times in literature. Other examples include Moby Dick and stories of Scripture. One particular story of Nekyia in Scripture is the story of Jonah and the whale. Jonah descends to the bottom of the ocean after being swallowed by a whale, he arises after the discovery that God is real and he does need to spread God's word.
