question 5 by jeff annis

Ahab's essential statement was that noone would cause him to stray from his path. He continues to be paranoid about the whale and starts doubting some of his crew. Monomania is a term that talks about one's obsession with a certain subject or idea, which in the case of Ahab is of course the whale. He repeats himself numerous times to the point where he sounds like a madman, always talking about seeking revenge without swerving like his soul was nailed on a track with iron nails"whereon my soul is grooved to run."
