Movie vs. Book - Patrick Collins Kyle Smith Tyler Smith Kate Pennebaker

There are many differences between both the movie and the book. For on the book is much more detailed and does not worry about time, but that is a given. One major difference though that is a difference in the actual plot is the pursuit of Moby Dick. In the book it is a long and drawn out process that takes three days of planning and differently executed attacks, whereas in the movie it is all squeezed into a short amount of time. Another difference comes in the meeting of ships. In the book the Pequod encounters a number of ships throughout it's journey, but in the book the meetings aren't a presence. The instance of Pip fallling overboard is also very different between the two. In the book Pip falls overboard two times and the search for him is described as a long affair, whereas in the movie he falls only once is found quickly and is almost attacked by a shark. This is an example of added drama and suspense. Queequeg's coffin rising to the surface is also very different. In the movie is just happens to appear a foot away from Ishmael, but in the book it rises from a vortex from the sunken wreckage and Ishmael must go to it. I don't know if it is considered in the last third of the book or not but Ahab also does not speak to the whale head in the movie.
