Ch. 5 Key Ideas- SHundt, MSnider, ATaylor, SMehrotra, & KMarsh
In chapter 5 there are some main reoccuring themes, which include:
*Sound- emphasize sound effects heavily in first part of the chapter
*Buttons- Bring back memories of his past, emphasizes hatred of women who have sewn them on
*Joe Christmas is cold-hearted and silently calculating & hates women
*Brown snoring- Constant annoyance
*Darkness, blackness- Represents confusion and isolation
*Can't see, but smell- Cannot see black people in darnkess, but they have a distinct smell to him, sensory
*Towns- Christmas does not fit in either the black or white town
*Lonely, solitary, isolated
*Christmas has the need to belong, yet he pushes everyone away
