Chapter 4
The main focus of this chapter is meant to be directed towards the numinous philosophy. Numinous relates everyday experiences to a divine experience underlying it. Chapter 4 begins with Ishmael and Queequeg lying in bed with Queequeg's arms wrapped around Ishmael as if he were his wife, which could possibly demonstrate the smothering love of God. Shortly after, Ishmael has a flashblack about his childhood where there was a presence of another arm draping him, almost divine-like.
