Part 9 "Fedallah" Emily Rew
Fedallah is a Persian fire worshipper that is part of the crew that oversees the lowering of the boat and his appearance is striking, he wears a turban made out of his own white hair and wears a black outfit. The crew fears Fedallah and thinks that he may be the devil himself and Ishamael figures out that the reason Ahab had made visits to the bottom of the boat was because he was keeping extra crew down there. Fedallah's name in Hebrew has the origin "ransom of God." the ransom theory in Christianity is one in which God tries to decietfully bribe or trick Satan. God does this because" the devil lost his dominion over mankind by unjustly trying to extend" his control to a sinless Christ in addition to humanity." Maybe Fedallah will try to extend to much power over Ahab through his prophetic visions and dreams or will try to trick Ahab, since both Fedallah and Ahab have somewhat of a devilish personality. Fedallah's name adds even more to the thoughts that Ishamel has abotu him being a demonic person. Ahab also says the crew believes him to be a demoniac and "madness maddened."
