Hannah Robinson - Chapter 73 - last paragraph central idea
Within this chapter Stubb and Flask kill a right whale at the request of Ahab. Stubb and Flask however think this catch is a waste because right whale oil is much less valuable then that of a sperm whale. Flask tells them that Ahab wants the right whale head to place opposite the sperm whale head on the ship deck because the two heads will keep the boat from ever capsizing. Stubb and Flask believe Fedellah to be absurd and foolish.
The central idea of the last paragraph in this chapter portrays a unique shadow. While, Fedellah compares the lines in his hand to the deep wrinkles on the whale, Ahab comes and stands in the shadow of Fedellah. Their two shadows fuse together and create one large shadow. This allusion of the two shadows may hint at the idea that Fedellah is a major part of Ahab and contributes to every decision and choice Ahab makes. Fedellah and Ahab are growing together as one.
