Ahab's Speech Kyle Smith Kate Pennebaker Tyler Smith
Melville has his protagonist of the novel (Ahab) give a speech to Starbuck about his life and adventures at sea. Ahab's speech emphasizes his desire to capture and kill Moby Dick. But also he explains how his life has been wasted as a metaphor of his age and past experiences. The reader can tell that this speech was inevitable due to the debate on the Pequod about turning back around. This speech can be seen a turning point in the novel; Ahab displays how long he has wanted to capture the white monster of the sea.
