Chapter Four Reflective Reading
Joe Christmas is an interesting character. He seems to have difficulty accepting things (facts or truths) about himself which he has no control over. Joe appears to be disturbed, or at least, extremely self conscious about being half black, also, he appears to be "scarred" from his orphanage experience. Joe Brown, lived with Joe Christmas and together they murdered Joana Burden. They never really knew themselves untill right before the murder of Burden. As far as time goes, the past does determine the present, if Joana Burden hadn't have invited Joe Christmas to live with her, she wouldn't be dead, so the past does determine the future, and so does the present.
