This is probably too late...
I realize this is ridiculously late, but i already had this written, i had just forgotten to post it, its the answer to Question #2 about the Mark of Cain/Ahab:
The mark of Cain, refers to the biblical character who ed his brother out of spite and recieved a mark from God which would make him known to all as a er, but also protected him from any retaliotory attacks. Ahab, has also recieved a mark, his leg (or lack thereof) , which was given (or should i say taken?) by Moby Dick. Of course, Ahab killed noone that we know of, so we must assume his mark has a different meaning than Cain's. One possible interpretation of Ahab's mark points toward Ahab's lack of proper leggage as a warning to others who hunt moby dick (or any other ghost of the past) that they are in danger. It might also point towards the whaling buisness as a sort of immoral buisness which massacres sentient beings in the name of monetary gain and better lighting.
