Chapter 2

Kelly Snyder, Anh Nguyen, Ellen Wagner, Melissa Hampton.

In Chapter 2, there are many terms that are not in your normal everyday conversation. One being the solstice. There are two solstices a year, they mark either the beginning of summer or the beginning of winter. Ishmael chooses the winter solstice to go on a whaling trip because the days are getting shorter and the whales are migrating towards the south, which should make it easier to spot them. The city of Gomorrah was mentioned when he went into the black church, in this church, they were conversing about the Angel of Doom. Gomorrah is the ancient city destroyed by God because of their sin, it was a wicked city and it was burned to the ground. It was near Sodoman and possibly covered by the Sea and in the Bible, it was set on fire because of their wickedness in Genesis 19. Also, it Euroclydon was mention because it was cyclonic tempestuous northeast wind that blows in the Mediterranean. Moluccas was mention because it was an island in the Maluku Islands which are also called the Spice Island.
