Starbuck's Soliloquy (Chris Fitzer)

In Starbuck's Soliloquy [Dusk] Melvilles uses allusions with the demigorgon and personification when describing Starbuck's soul, but his dominant trope in this chapter is the metaphor. Starbuck's exclamations at the frustrations he has toward Ahab and the crew are express through metaphors. This metaphor of the relationship between the sailors and the whale is simply a microcosm of the larger metaphor that is Moby Dick itself [macrocosm]. Overall Starbuck explains his relations with Ahab and his life on the boat through a simple metaphor which is intensified through the allusions, personification, and other tropes.

I don't precisely agree but you make a sufficient case. 5/5
